“Træskab” (wooden cabinet)

Birch, pear, and pine, treated with oil and wax

I’m sitting holding a piece of wood, turning it this way ant that, gradually working it into a spoon in pure organic forms – carving wooden spoons is a delightful occupation. My skills are put to the test in quite another way when as a cabinetmaker. I move away from straight lines and right angles and into a universe of curves. Two intrinsically different principles of form must be made to meet: outwardly the expressive – the soft, the round and the organic and inwardly the constructive – flat surfaces, edges, angles and joints. The piece must be coherent, and it must fulfil its purpose. And how wonderful it is – this is cabinet making for the heart, mind and body...
